Nevada Lottery Tax Calculator
Nevada’s constitution forbids a personal income tax, so slot jackpots, sports bets and lottery prizes won by Nevadans are taxed only by the IRS — though Nevada has no lottery, so the ticket is always bought somewhere else.

Crossing into California for a tax-free state prize
Nevadans who play Powerball or Mega Millions typically cross into California or Arizona. California’s Government Code exempts California Lottery prizes from state tax for everyone, so a Nevada resident with a $1,000,000 prize on a California ticket pays no state tax anywhere: $320,000 federal, $680,000 kept. On an Arizona ticket the Arizona Lottery would withhold 2.5%, and Nevada has no tax to credit it against.
Casino winnings in Nevada
Article 10, § 1(9) of the Nevada Constitution prohibits an income tax on the wages or personal income of natural persons. Casino and sportsbook winnings are therefore federal-only for residents. Federal reporting applies from $2,000 per slot or bingo jackpot in 2026, and the 24% regular withholding applies to sports and other wagers paying more than $5,000 at 300 times the stake. Losses help only if you itemize, and only 90% of them count from 2026.

What Nevada winners should know
- Nevada’s constitution prohibits an income tax on natural persons, so casino jackpots and out-of-state lottery prizes won by Nevadans owe federal tax only.
- Nevada has no lottery; a Nevadan who buys tickets in California, Arizona or Idaho is a nonresident winner there (California Lottery prizes are untaxed by California).
