Withholding that matches the bill
Idaho taxed 2025 income at 0% up to $4,811 for single filers ($9,622 joint) and 5.3% above. The Idaho Lottery’s FAQ lists the same 5.3% for state withholding, alongside the 24% federal share. For a $300,000 prize the state holds back $15,900 against an Idaho bill of $15,645 — a gap of only a couple of hundred dollars, the value of the 0% band.
Idaho has not yet posted its 2026 schedule, so the 2025 thresholds are used and labeled; the 5.3% rate is the one the Lottery is withholding today.
Utah, Nevada and Washington players
Idaho’s border towns sell tickets to residents of Utah, which has no lottery, and to Washingtonians and Nevadans. Idaho’s Lottery says you do not have to be a resident to claim, and it withholds the same 5.3% from out-of-state winners over $5,000. Washington and Nevada residents have no home income tax to offset it, so for them the Idaho tax is the only state tax on the prize.
