A rate on its way down

The Department of Revenue publishes the schedule through 2027: 4.4% above $10,000 for 2025, 4% for 2026 and 3.75% for 2027. On a $50,000 prize won in 2026 by a filer with no other income, Mississippi tax is $1,600. The same prize won in 2027 would cost $1,500 at 3.75% under the published rate.

    Withholding and privacy

The Mississippi Lottery withholds applicable state and federal taxes from individual prizes of $600 or more, though it does not print the state percentage; the calculator shows it as unpublished. Mississippi’s lottery law lets winners keep their identity private: the Lottery will not disclose who holds a winning ticket without written permission. Spouses on a combined return each get their own $10,000 zero band, which this calculator does not split.
